Added to the Philadelphia Historic Register in 2002, the original National building was demolished to make way for the new National Apartments. The original orange tile base was meticulously recreated and incorporated in the new design. Careful attention was paid to the connection to its adjacent neighbors in Olde City especially Elfreths Alley, the oldest street in the country.
